Taiwanese Smartphone manufacturer HTC announced on July 6 on its official website that the company will hold an event in Beijing on July 27 where the company is expected to unveil its own-brand Smartphones focusing on the Chinese market, the Commercial Times reported on July 8. HTC currently designs and manufactures Smartphones for Dopod International under the Dopod brand in China and the HTC-Dopod tie-up has lasted for years since 2001 or 2002. HTC is expected to officially take over Dopod's mobile phone business in China some time in July, the chinabyte.com reported on July 7. In August, HTC will launch its own-brand Smartphones in China, deserting the Dopod brand. HTC, however, was not immediately available for comment and further details were not yet known.
